| Obverse description | Fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, depicted as a mature bust wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and a drop earring, rendered in finely detailed relief by engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear beneath the truncation. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF JERSEY, with the date 2003 positioned at lower right, all set against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

Issued to mark Prince William's 21st birthday in June 2003, this piece belongs to a wave of Jersey gold proofs produced under licensing arrangements that gave the island's monetary authority latitude to issue commemoratives well beyond the scope of everyday circulation coinage. Jersey's status as a Crown dependency — not part of the United Kingdom — allowed it to produce its own commemorative currency independently of the Royal Mint's schedule.
The .999 fineness is notably purer than the .9167 standard historically used for British sovereign coinage.
