Additional information

The East India Company ceased to exist as a commercial and governing entity in 1858, dissolved by the British Crown following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The modern "East India Company" that issued this coin is a London-based luxury goods firm that acquired the brand name in 2005 — it holds no historical continuity with the original chartered company and issues coins under a Saint Helena government license.

Napoleon died on Saint Helena in 1821 while under East India Company jurisdiction, which supplies the nominal connection. The island was administered by the Company from 1659 until the Crown assumed direct control in 1834.
