Reverse description A centrally positioned lighthouse emits radiating beams of light across the field, symbolising the dawn of the new millennium. The milestone dates 2000 and 2001 flank the lighthouse tower at mid-height, one numeral to each side. Three seabirds in full flight are depicted in the lower field surrounding the base of the lighthouse. The legend MILLENNIUM arcs across the upper border, while FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower border, all in raised capital letters within a decorative inner border.

Additional information

Alderney's millennium crown was part of a wave of commemorative issues produced across British Crown Dependencies in 2000, the majority struck by the Pobjoy Mint on contract. The States of Alderney had only begun issuing collector coinage in 1989, making the entire series a modern licensing exercise rather than a functional currency program — these pieces were never intended to circulate and were sold directly into the collector market at issue price.
