Issued to mark the point at which Elizabeth II surpassed George III as the longest-reigning monarch in Jersey's history under the British Crown, this was one of several commemorative strikes released across Crown Dependencies in 2011 ahead of her Diamond Jubilee the following year. Jersey has maintained its own coinage rights as a Crown Dependency since 1877, independent of the Royal Mint's remit.
