Obverse description The fifth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Jody Clark, dominates the obverse, depicting the crowned and draped bust of the Queen in right-facing profile. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem, rendered in fine detail, and a drop earring is visible below. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·FID·DEF·5 POUNDS in raised Latin characters, arranged around the full circumference of the coin. The engraver's initials J.C appear in the lower field beneath the truncation of the bust. The mirrored proof fields provide a sharp contrast against the finely detailed portrait.
