| Reverse description | Right-facing bust of King Henry VI occupies the central field, flanked to the left by a heraldic shield of the royal arms and to the right by a stylised Tudor rose, both rendered in detailed relief. An inscription arching above the bust records his regnal title and the dates of his two reigns: 1422–1461 and 1470–1471. The denomination FIVE POUNDS appears in the lower exergue, separated from the main design by a line. The composition, engraved by David Cornell, draws on Lancastrian royal iconography and medieval portraiture conventions to evoke the historical character of the subject. |
