| Additional information |
HMS Revenge was the lead ship of a class of eight nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines commissioned into the Royal Navy between 1967 and 1969. The Resolution class carried Britain's independent nuclear deterrent following the cancellation of the Skybolt missile programme and the subsequent Nassau Agreement of 1962, which locked the UK into the American Polaris system. Revenge herself was decommissioned in 1992 when the Vanguard class took over the deterrent role, and has sat in extended storage at Rosyth ever since — still awaiting dismantling as of the coin's issue date.
