Reverse description Faithful recreation of William Dyce's celebrated quartered shield of arms as engraved for the 1847 Victorian Gothic Crown reverse. The centrally placed quartered shield displays the arms of England (three lions passant guardant), Scotland (lion rampant), Ireland (harp), and France (fleurs-de-lis), surmounted by the Royal Crown and encircled by an ornate Garter bearing the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The shield is set upon an elaborate cruciform composition of interlocking Gothic arches and foliate tracery, each spandrel richly filled with floral emblems of the constituent nations. The peripheral legend in Gothic blackletter script reads TUEATUR UNITA DEUS and ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII, the latter reproducing the original 1847 date of the prototype design.
