| Obverse description | Gothic-style effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing an ornate Gothic crown and an elaborately decorated dress with intricate geometric and floral patterning at the collar, closely inspired by William Wyon's celebrated Gothic Crown portrait of Queen Victoria. The effigy was engraved by Jody Clark and occupies the majority of the field against a deeply mirrored proof background. The surrounding legend is rendered in Gothic blackletter script reading ELIZABETH DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR. REG : F : D, with ALDERNEY C.I., FIVE POUNDS, and the date 2021 also incorporated in the inscription. The border is formed by a continuous row of Gothic quatrefoil ornaments. The engraver's initials JC appear at the lower left of the bust truncation. |
