Additional information

Alderney's Gothic Portrait issue belongs to a wave of commemoratives triggered by the Royal Mint's 2021 release of a crown-sized Gothic Coinage revival — itself referencing William Wyon's celebrated 1847 Gothic Crown, a piece so admired at the time that Queen Victoria reportedly kept a personal example. Alderney, as a Crown dependency outside the United Kingdom proper, regularly issues collector coinage through arrangements that allow it to reference British royal portraiture without falling under the Royal Mint's production monopoly.

The 28.28g, 38.60mm specification is the standard crown flan adopted across virtually all Commonwealth commemorative silver issues since the 1990s — worth noting only because it places this coin in a crowded field of near-identical substrates.
