Additional information

Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on November 20, 1947, this piece was struck the same year the Royal Mint relocated production from its Tower Hill site — a move that had itself taken place in 1968 to Llantrisant in Wales, though 1997 brought its own internal restructuring as the Mint transitioned toward executive agency status.

The five-pound crown format, long reserved for commemorative issues, had no circulation role here whatsoever.
