Additional information

Alderney has long served as the preferred issuing authority for British commemorative crown-sized pieces that the Royal Mint declines to produce itself, giving the Bailiwick's tiny administration a surprisingly active minting program relative to its population of under 2,500. The engagement of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was announced on 16 November 2010, and this issue was among the fastest-to-market commemoratives of that announcement — struck in the same calendar year.

The Pobjoy Mint, which holds the contract for Alderney issues, produced this in 22-carat gold at a weight closely matching the traditional five-sovereign specification.
