Guernsey has particular standing when it comes to WWII commemoration. The island was occupied by German forces from June 1940 until liberation on 9 May 1945 — the only British territory to fall under Nazi occupation during the war. That liberation date, a day after VE Day on the mainland, is still marked annually as Liberation Day and remains the island's most significant public holiday.
KM#168 was issued for the sixtieth anniversary of that liberation, not merely the broader Allied victory.
