Alderney's commemorative program has long leaned on English medieval monarchy as subject matter, and Edward IV makes reasonable enough fodder — he presided over the first Yorkist reign, defeated the Lancastrians at Towton in 1461 in what remains the bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil, and was briefly deposed before reclaiming the throne in 1471. The gold-plated format places this squarely in the mass-market collectibles trade of the 2000s, produced by the Pobjoy Mint under license from the Crown Dependency.
