Additional information

Issued to mark the bicentenary of Wellington's appointment as Commander-in-Chief of India, a posting that shaped his entire military philosophy before Waterloo made him a household name. Alderney, a Crown dependency outside both the UK and EU, issues its own commemorative coinage under royal warrant despite having no central bank and a resident population under 2,500.

The Royal Mint struck this piece for Alderney under contract — the island has no minting facility of its own.
