Additional information

Robert Stanford Tuck was one of the RAF's most decorated fighter pilots, credited with 29 aerial victories before being shot down over France in January 1942 and spending the remainder of the war as a POW at Stalag Luft III — the same camp that would later stage the "Great Escape." Jersey's connection to the Battle of Britain commemorative series is straightforward: the island had been under German occupation since 1940, making the RAF pilots who fought overhead figures of particular resonance for islanders who could do nothing but watch.
