Additional information

Guernsey's position in this subject matter is not incidental. The island was occupied by German forces from June 1940 until liberation in May 1945 — the only British territory to fall under Nazi occupation — making it one of the few places in the Crown Dependencies with a direct, lived connection to the events D-Day was meant to reverse. The commemorative program began in 2019 ahead of the 75th anniversary.

Struck to .999 fineness rather than the more common .9167 crown gold, placing it firmly in the bullion-proof category despite its commemorative framing.
