| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dynamic battle scene commemorating the Norman Conquest at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, depicting three medieval warriors in the foreground: a spearman with a kite shield bearing a lion rampant device, a central archer in full draw wearing a conical helmet and mail coif, and to the right a mounted Norman cavalryman in mail armour wielding a lance at full gallop. The inscription 'BATTLE OF HASTINGS 1066' appears in the right field, while the series title 'GREAT BATTLES' arcs along the upper legend and the denomination 'FIVE POUNDS' is inscribed along the lower border, all rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

Jersey's commemorative program has long leaned on English history despite the island's own Norman roots — an irony not lost on collectors, given that William the Conqueror launched his 1066 campaign from Normandy, whose ducal territory included Jersey itself. The island was never part of Anglo-Saxon England and owed no allegiance to Harold II, making the Battle of Hastings a curiously detached subject for a Jersey issue.
KM#201 is a standard 28.28g crown-sized sterling piece, a format shared with dozens of Commonwealth commemoratives of the period through the Pobjoy Mint and similar contractors.
