Jersey's commemorative program has long leaned on English history despite the island's own Norman roots — an irony not lost on collectors, given that William the Conqueror launched his 1066 campaign from Normandy, whose ducal territory included Jersey itself. The island was never part of Anglo-Saxon England and owed no allegiance to Harold II, making the Battle of Hastings a curiously detached subject for a Jersey issue.
