| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, with a pearl drop earring and draped neckline, after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs across the upper left field and 'ALDERNEY' arcs across the upper right field, flanking the effigy. The date '2000' appears in the exergue below the portrait. The design is rendered in high relief consistent with proof coinage. |

| Additional information |
Alderney's claim to this subject is not ceremonial — the island was evacuated in June 1940 and remained under German occupation for the entirety of the war, making it the only British territory to experience full Nazi administration. The Battle of Britain was fought, in part, to prevent that occupation from spreading to the mainland.
The KM#21a designation distinguishes this silver proof from the base-metal circulation issue. Alderney has no functioning monetary circulation of its own; these pieces are struck under licence and sold directly to collectors.
