Jersey's 2008 Battle of Britain crown was issued to mark the 68th anniversary of the battle — an odd choice of interval, suggesting it was timed instead to coincide with a broader commemorative licensing program rather than any numerically significant milestone. Jersey itself was occupied by German forces from July 1940 through May 1945, making it one of the few British territories to endure the full weight of Nazi administration while the RAF fought overhead to prevent a mainland invasion that never came.
