| Reverse description | Commemorative bust portrait of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson in naval uniform facing three-quarters left, dominating the central field. A small oval cameo vignette depicting a period sailing warship, believed to be HMS Victory, appears subordinate to the main portrait. The denomination FIVE POUNDS is inscribed in the lower exergue, while the commemorative legend ADMIRAL HORATIO LORD NELSON arcs across the upper field. The design honours the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson's death in 1805. |

Nelson's death at Trafalgar in October 1805 came just as the battle was won — he was shot by a French sniper aboard HMS Victory and died below decks before the engagement concluded. His body was preserved in a cask of brandy for the return voyage to England, where he received a state funeral at St. Paul's Cathedral. Guernsey's issuance in the bicentenary year of 1805 sits within a crowded field of commemoratives from multiple Commonwealth jurisdictions marking the same anniversary.
