Reverse description A detailed depiction of a steamship navigating sea waves occupies the central field of the poppy-shaped flan, rendered in gold plating against a dark background. The legend 'FIVE POUNDS' arcs along the upper border, while the inscription '1921 · ROYAL BRITISH LEGION · 2011' runs along the lower arc, commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion. A coloured red poppy appliqué is positioned at the base of the design, beneath the ship, serving as a symbol of remembrance.

Additional information

The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921, amalgamating four separate ex-servicemen's organizations in the aftermath of the First World War. By 2011, its ninetieth anniversary, the Legion had grown into Britain's largest armed forces charity, with the annual Poppy Appeal alone raising tens of millions of pounds. Jersey, as a Crown dependency with its own distinct commemorative coin program, issued this series under license — a common arrangement that allows small jurisdictions to produce themed Crown-sized pieces for the collector market without any serious expectation of circulation.
