| Reverse description | Left-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in later life, wearing a headscarf, positioned to the left of the design. To the right, a view of the Round Tower of Windsor Castle is depicted alongside a large decorative Tudor rose in high relief. The gilded numeral '80' appears prominently in the centre-lower field, commemorating the Queen's eightieth birthday. The inscription FIVE POUNDS is engraved along the lower margin within a beaded border. The overall composition alludes to the Windsor Castle fire of 1992 and the Queen's enduring connection to the castle. |

| Additional information |
The Windsor Castle fire of November 1992 broke out in the Queen's Private Chapel and spread rapidly through the northeastern section of the building, destroying or damaging over 100 rooms over the course of fifteen hours. Restoration took five years and cost approximately £37 million, much of it controversially funded by opening Buckingham Palace to paying visitors for the first time.
Guernsey issued this piece as part of a multi-reverse commemorative series marking the 80th birthday, with the fire and subsequent restoration chosen as one of several defining episodes of the reign.
