| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in the fourth definitive portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley. The bust is unrobed and faces right with fine hair detail. The surrounding legend reads ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY, with the date 2019 below the truncation and the engraver's initials IRB incuse beneath the portrait. The field is deeply mirrored in proof finish. |

Guernsey occupies an unusual position in D-Day commemoration: the island was under German occupation from June 1940 until May 1945, liberated only after Germany's unconditional surrender — not by the Normandy landings themselves. The Royal Mint produced this piece on behalf of Guernsey through its standard commemorative licensing arrangements, which means the issuing authority's connection to the event being marked is more complicated than most such coins acknowledge.
