Jersey has issued commemorative five-pound pieces with some regularity, but the 65th coronation anniversary sits at an unusual interval — not a round number, not a jubilee, simply the year Elizabeth II surpassed Queen Victoria's reign length in September 2015, a milestone the Royal Mint and associated issuers milked across several subsequent years of releases. The selective gold plating technique applied here was widely adopted by the Royal Mint and its licensees during this period to add perceived premium value to .925 flans that were otherwise identical to dozens of concurrent issues.
