Obverse description The third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, is depicted in right-facing bust, wearing a tiara and a draped neckline. The portrait is encircled by a processional arrangement of mounted trumpeters, separated by swords and sceptres drawn from the Royal Regalia, evoking the pageantry of the Coronation ceremony. The denomination FIVE POUNDS appears within the legend arcing along the upper periphery, while the royal titles form a continuous inscription around the coin's edge. The design conveys a formal, heraldic character befitting a commemorative crown-sized piece.

Additional information

The 1993 crown-sized commemorative marks the 40th anniversary of the June 1953 coronation, an event that drew an estimated 27 million television viewers in Britain alone — remarkable given that many families had purchased their first set specifically for the occasion. The BBC broadcast ran over seven hours.
