Additional information

Alderney's status as a Crown Dependency separate from Guernsey gives the Royal Mint — which produces these issues under license — unusual latitude to strike commemoratives that the UK itself often avoids for political reasons. Remembrance-themed piedfort silvers have been a reliable revenue stream for smaller Channel Island authorities since the 1990s, with Alderney particularly active in the format after establishing its own coinage authority in 1989.

The piedfort double-thickness specification traces to French medieval practice, revived by the Royal Mint in 1982 for collector issues. KM#P10 sits in a crowded series; distinguishing it from the standard-weight companion requires checking the edge, where the additional thickness is immediately apparent.
