Guernsey's commemorative output in the early 2000s leaned heavily on British royal history as licensing fodder, and this piece is squarely in that tradition. The island's formal coinage rights derive from its status as a Crown Dependency — not part of the United Kingdom, but owing allegiance directly to the Crown — which gives Guernsey latitude to issue coins the Royal Mint itself would never produce.
