Reverse description A group portrait of seven crowned and uncrowned effigies representing the monarchs of 17th-century Britain, arranged in a overlapping composition that fills the central field. The busts depict the sovereigns of the Stuart and Interregnum period, rendered in period costume with characteristic lace collars, long wigs, and crowns. A circular cartouche at lower centre bears the designation C17th. The surrounding legend arcs across the top reading A CENTURY OF THE MONARCHY, with FIVE POUNDS along the lower border, the whole framed by an inner ring of beads.
