Additional information

The Court of Cassation, established in Egypt in 1931 on the model of the French Cour de cassation, sits at the apex of the Egyptian civil and criminal court hierarchy. This commemorative was issued the same year Egypt marked the institution's 75th anniversary of operation under its post-independence reorganization. The .720 silver fineness — a step below sterling — was standard for Egyptian commemoratives of this period, keeping production costs manageable for coins intended more for cabinet storage than circulation.
