Reverse description A rampant Welsh Dragon, passant and facing sinister, dominates the central field in selectively applied gold plating, rendered in high relief against a finely crosshatched background. The dragon is depicted with outstretched wings, extended clawed forelegs, and a coiled tail, conveying heraldic strength and dynamism. The Latin legend SYMBOLA FORTITUDINIS ET FIDELITATIS — meaning 'Symbol of Strength and Loyalty' — arcs along the upper portion of the border. The denomination FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower rim within a recessed band. The design is the work of engraver Tom Meek.
