| Reverse description | A rampant Welsh Dragon, passant and facing sinister, dominates the central field in selectively applied gold plating, rendered in high relief against a finely crosshatched background. The dragon is depicted with outstretched wings, extended clawed forelegs, and a coiled tail, conveying heraldic strength and dynamism. The Latin legend SYMBOLA FORTITUDINIS ET FIDELITATIS — meaning 'Symbol of Strength and Loyalty' — arcs along the upper portion of the border. The denomination FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower rim within a recessed band. The design is the work of engraver Tom Meek. |

The Isle of Man has long operated as an unusually aggressive issuer of commemorative coinage, licensing designs well outside its own territorial history — a commercial strategy that has kept the Pobjoy Mint and its successors busy for decades. This Welsh Dragon piece continues that tradition, issued under the authority of a Crown Dependency with no constitutional connection to Wales whatsoever.
The selective gold plating is applied by electrodeposition after striking, a finishing technique that became standard on premium Isle of Man issues in the early 2000s.
