Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Charles III, rendered in high relief after the portrait by sculptor Glyn Davies. The king is depicted with natural, unadorned features in a dignified profile bust. The circular legend CHARLES III · BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 2024 appears in the lower field flanked by raised dots. The finely mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted portrait.

Additional information

The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace houses the working carriage horses and vehicles used in state ceremonial functions — it remains an active royal facility, not a museum, with the Gold State Coach still deployed for coronations. Guernsey has issued commemorative crown-sized gold pieces under royal license since the 1970s, operating outside the Royal Mint's remit and frequently targeting the collector market with themes the mainland issues avoid or delay.

KM#261 is among the earliest Guernsey issues to feature Charles III in a commemorative gold proof format following his May 2023 coronation.
