| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by David Lawrence, depicts two RAF aircrew in flying kit and goggles shown in heroic portrait against a richly detailed background featuring Avro Lancaster bombers in formation, stylised explosion bursts, foliage, and a waving Union Jack flag. In the lower central field, a Lancaster bearing the code AJ-G is rendered in relief. The curved legend THE DAMBUSTERS 80TH ANNIVERSARY arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination FIVE POUNDS appears on a raised ribbon cartouche at the base. The entire composition commemorates the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise, carried out by No. 617 Squadron RAF in May 1943. |
