Reverse description A large intaglio vignette of a fully-rigged Dutch East India Company sailing vessel under sail occupies the centre of the note, rendered in green on a fine guilloche underprint. The bilingual denomination "FIVE POUNDS / VYF POND" is printed across the top, and the issuer's name appears in both English and Afrikaans in large block letters flanking the ship vignette. The numeral "5" appears in each lower corner.
