Additional information

The Academy of Arabic Language in Cairo was founded in 1932, making it one of the oldest Arabic language regulatory bodies in the world — predating the Damascus and Baghdad equivalents by decades. Its mandate to standardize Modern Standard Arabic, coin new technical vocabulary, and resist loanword contamination has placed it at the center of ongoing arguments between linguistic purists and everyday usage across the Arab world.

Egypt issued commemorative five-pound silver pieces in .720 fineness rather than the more common .925 or .999, a composition choice consistent with Egyptian commemorative practice of the period.
