Obverse description Portrait of King George VI in military uniform occupies an oval vignette at left, framed by an ornate guilloche border; the Royal Arms of Australia appears in an oval cartouche at right. Reverse description A square intaglio vignette at left portrays a group of longshoremen loading or unloading barrels and bales, captioned COMMERCE below the scene. To the right, the denomination £5 and the word FIVE appear within an elaborate guilloche underprint composed of interlocking geometric and basket-weave patterns. The overall design is executed in a deep blue ink with ornate lathe-work borders framing the entire reverse.
