| Additional information |
A. Dreyfus was one of several department stores operating in Mülhausen (Mulhouse) during the German imperial period that issued private iron tokens to facilitate small transactions — particularly useful during coin shortages that periodically plagued the Alsace region. These Warenhaus tokens circulated as store credit rather than general currency, redeemable only within the issuing establishment, a practice tolerated by German authorities before stricter regulations curtailed private token issues after the First World War.
