Obverse description The municipal coat of arms of Witten occupies the central field, depicting a heraldic shield surmounted by a three-towered castle wall, with two rampant lions facing each other in the lower portion of the shield. The arms are flanked on either side by foliate sprays. The legend STADT WITTEN arcs along the upper periphery within a curved banner, with small decorative stops flanking the beginning and end of the inscription. A pearled outer rim borders the entire design.
