Obverse description The obverse displays the municipal coat of arms of Sonthofen at center, a quartered shield featuring a stylized grain stalk on the left half and horizontal lines with crossed implements on the right half, flanked on either side by the split date 19 and 17. The legend MARKTGEMEINDE arcs across the upper field and SONTHOFEN curves along the lower field, both in raised Latin capitals. The entire design is contained within a prominent inner pearl border with a plain raised rim beyond.
