Rogasen — now Rogoźno, in what is today northwestern Poland — was a Prussian town in the Posen region when this note was issued. It belongs to the vast and mostly unglamorous world of German Notgeld, the emergency municipal small change that flooded circulation during and after the First World War when coin metal was diverted to the war effort. Magistrat-issued pieces at this denomination were genuinely functional tokens, not the decorative collector series that came later from other municipalities.
The Posen region was ceded to Poland under the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, making notes from Rogasen administratively obsolete almost immediately.
