| Obverse description | Outer pearl border follows the octagonal perimeter of the token. Within this border, a circular beaded inner ring frames the central field, in which the large numeral '5' is prominently raised. The legend 'UNRUH & LIEBIG' arcs across the upper portion of the annular space between the beaded ring and the pearl border, while 'LEIPZIG' appears along the lower arc, with a five-pointed star flanking each side at the base. |

| Additional information |
Unruh & Liebig was a major Leipzig manufacturer of textile machinery, and this zinc notgeld piece dates from the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany during World War I, when copper and nickel were diverted entirely to military production. Municipal and corporate issuers filled the void with their own emergency pfennig pieces, sanctioned by local authorities and redeemable only within narrow geographic or commercial limits. Zinc was the metal of last resort — cheap, abundant, and deeply unpopular with the public, who found it corroded quickly in pocket wear.
