Obverse description Plain pearl border encircles the entire octagonal field. A circular beaded inner ring frames the central denomination numeral '5', rendered in a stylised serif typeface. Flanking the numeral above is a small decorative crown-like ornament. The circumferential legend, reading in Latin script, runs between the pearl border and the beaded circle, naming the issuing company and locality: SCHLESISCHE HOLZINDUSTRIE AKT. GES. above and LANGENÖLS below, each separated by a floral rosette ornament.

Additional information

Issued by a Silesian timber and wood-processing company based in Langenöls — today Lasówka, in southwestern Poland — this is company scrip (Lagergeld or Werksgeld) of the type widely circulated in German industrial communities during the early twentieth century, when large employers routinely issued their own token currency redeemable only at company-operated stores. Zinc was the practical choice for low-denomination scrip: cheap, easily struck, and of no meaningful intrinsic value to discourage hoarding or export outside the issuing works.
