| Additional information |
The Mechanische Baumwoll-Spinn- und Weberei Kempten was one of the larger textile operations in the Allgäu region, and like many German industrial firms it issued zinc notgeld tokens for use within its own payroll and company store system — a practice that proliferated during the material shortages and monetary disruption of the First World War period. Zinc was the pragmatic choice when copper and nickel were commandeered for war production.
