Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark blue-violet and tan on cream paper, with the denomination numeral '5' appearing in large format at both left and right flanking a central vignette of the Töpfersturm (Potter's Tower), a historic round tower with a pointed spire set among trees, captioned 'TÖPFERSTURM' below. The left panel carries a redemption notice in Gothic script stating the note is redeemable within one year of issue at the Stadtkasse, while the right panel bears the place-date 'Waltershausen, den 1. Juli 1921,' the issuing authority 'der Stadtrat,' and a manuscript signature. The word 'Pfennig' appears in letterpress at the lower left and lower right.
Obverse lettering Die Einlösung dieses Scheines erfolgt innerhalb eines Jahres vom Tage der Ausgabe an gerechnet bei der Stadtkasse.
