Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion shows a golden key between two landmasses and a rising sun, the lower-left bears diagonal blue and white stripes representing the sea, and the lower-right displays a royal palm tree against a mountainous landscape. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap bearing a star, flanked on either side by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base. The circumferential legend reads REPUBLICA DE CUBA along the upper arc, with the denomination 5 PESOS at the base and the fineness and weight specifications 12 G. and AG 0.999 flanking the shield at left and right respectively.
