Additional information

Uruguay's 1969 pattern coinage program was part of a broader monetary reform effort as the country struggled with accelerating inflation that would, within a few years, render the peso nearly worthless. Most patterns from this series never advanced to circulation strikes, making survivorship largely a function of how many pieces the Banco Central distributed to officials and foreign mints during the approval process.

KM#Pn57 is among the less-documented entries in Uruguayan pattern literature. The .750 fineness is a practical alloy choice seen in several Latin American gold patterns of the period, balancing durability against bullion cost for dies that may only strike a handful of pieces.
