| Additional information |
Casa de Moneda de México struck this piece in 1960 to mark fifty years since the first powered flight in Mexico, achieved by Alberto Braniff on January 8, 1910 — a flight of roughly 70 meters at Balbuena airfield in Mexico City, predating any officially recognized Mexican military aviation program by several years. As a pattern, it never entered circulation; the commemorative 5 Peso program for this anniversary did not advance to a struck-for-issue coin.
The .720 fine silver specification aligns with the transitional alloy Mexico was using through this period before further debasements in the mid-1960s.
