Obverse description The national coat of arms of El Salvador is displayed centrally, featuring a triangular shield surrounded by five volcanic peaks rising above the sea, surmounted by a radiant liberty cap, and flanked by five national flags. The shield is encircled by a wreath of laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon, and two crossed cannons appear beneath. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL SALVADOR arcs around the upper periphery. In the exergue, the fineness 900, mint mark C.A.M., and date 1892 are inscribed across the lower field.

Reverse description A laureate bust facing left dominates the field, depicting a classical allegorical female figure with elaborately rendered hair beneath a laurel wreath, her shoulders draped in a simple garment. The legend AMERICA CENTRAL is inscribed in two arcing segments around the upper periphery, flanking the effigy on left and right respectively. The denomination 5 PESOS appears in two lines along the lower rim, separated from the bust by a pair of raised dots serving as punctuation marks.
