The Banco Central de la República Dominicana contracted François-Charles Oberthur's Rennes facility for much of its 1990s production, a period when the Dominican peso was under sustained inflationary pressure following years of fiscal mismanagement under Balaguer. The 5 Pesos Oro denomination had limited purchasing power by 1995 — inflation had eroded it substantially — which likely accelerated this note's withdrawal from active use and contributes to finding genuinely circulated examples rather than pristine ones.
