Obverse description The obverse features the Cuban national coat of arms at center, depicting a shield quartered with a golden key between two landmasses above waves, a royal palm tree on a plain flanked by mountains, and diagonal blue and white stripes representing the sea; the shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a fasces and is flanked by sprays of laurel on the left and oak on the right. The arc legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 5 PESOS is inscribed along the lower periphery. The entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
